The winter solstice is upon us.
The longest night is here.
All of Advent has been spent holding our breath, holding onto hope that the Light is coming.
Year after year, He proves Himself faithful to arrive, and to return.
As the sun waxes and wanes its warmth over our corner of the world, we remember that all of creation whispers, roars, His name.
Cultures throughout all of time have worshiped the created thing, rather than the Creator.
People all over the globe are gazing upward tonight, marveling at the celestial and completely missing the divine.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
“To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.”(Deuteronomy 10:14)
“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.” (Nehemiah 9:6)
“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.” (1 Chronicles 29:11)
This is our heart’s cry, as we press into the longing, the darkness, believing you will burst forth again in holy, humble radiance.
