This Is The Work Of God...

I look to the Last Supper and something comes over me.
I am utterly baffled, totally enraptured, completely confused, yet fully convinced.
The questions roll in like thunderclouds but the answers fall like rain, watering the flowers of my faith.
How is it, that on the eve of His crucifixion, He is indulging at a ceremonial dinner?
Why is it, that after all the sermons and signs, He’s now just rolling up His sleeves to engage in a raw, human act of service?
Did He have to speak in such riddle?
What was really going on here?!
Partaking. Imbibing. It’s the stuff of humanity. He dined with us on earth so that we could dine with Him in heaven. He gave us something tactile, because He knew we’d need it.
Cleansing. Serving. He stooped low to wash our filthy feet so that we could stand tall in pure confidence. He showed us something practical, because He knew we’d need it.
Jesus knew we’d overcomplicate and misunderstand most everything. If His own disciples, who had the benefit of proximity to Him as well as cultural context still interpreted and applied His teaching differently, how much more so would we today?
He made it so simple, for us.
Believe. Partake. Remember. Trust. Repeat.
We make it so complicated.
He did the hard work, that we could never do.
So that we could do the joyful work.
Receive. Worship. Remember. Share. Repeat.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. by this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
They’ll know us by our love.
Love has a name, and He covered a multitude of sins.
He fulfilled the whole law.
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:28-29)
I believe in the One He has sent.
Jesus!
As I journey, question and wrestle I cling to these foundational truths. As I discover, breakthrough and behold I keep holding fast to His finished work and trust Him to bring it all to fruition in me, in His timing, in His way. The gospel has captivated me and I am dedicated to embracing more of the mystery until I am absorbed into eternity and the fullness of all my questions become answered in Christ! I believe, even though I cannot see. But oh, what I can see is ever so magnificent! Jesus is so worthy to be pursued. I am in awe that His love for me compelled Him to redeem us! Thank you, Lord!
