This was our family's first year celebrating All Saints Day, and it was a joy!
What may strike you as an exclusively Catholic holiday is, in fact, a long-held celebration in many denominational traditions of the Christian church.
For us, it was a time to reflect on and remember our new identity, saints, paid for by the precious blood of Jesus! No longer are we slaves to sin and without hope of glory. We are reconciled to God through faith, by the finished work of Jesus! This is the greatest news of all time! With this joy, we are free to ask God how He wants to reveal His glory through our own lives.
I made a goodie bag for each of my kids, and we celebrated by decorating, reading saint stories, praying, coloring, and bringing goodies to our neighbors! We spent time reading about heroes of the faith, our cloud of witnesses- people who allowed God's love to shine through their lives! In life, death, sickness, youth, old age, health, peace, and persecution. My mom read missionary stories aloud to us as kids and it was one of the most formative experiences of my life. She wove the study of Christian legacies into my homeschool education and that was a gift. Those stories of both radical and simple faith inspired me, compelled me.
Our goal in celebrating this rich holiday is to give our kids role models to look up to amidst a world that is ever-deteriorating in virtue. The world will put celebrities, scandals, human achievement, and pursuit of pleasure on pedestals, hoping to entice them. But we choose to lay the foundation first-whatever is true, noble, pure, lovely, praiseworthy. Fix your eyes on Jesus, my friends, and the Spirit will help you run your race!
I downloaded Be A Heart's FREE All Saints Day Celebration Guide that included the cutouts of the darling saint cupcake toppers! The guide has everything you need to celebrate with a party, a classroom, or at home! Invites, banners, toppers, cards, activities, stickers, recipes, and more!
